How Soundproofing My Wall Stopped The Noise From Noisy Neighbours

1920's semi-detached house

If you’ve ever struggled with noisy neighbours, you’ll know how frustrating it can be. Whether it’s late-night TV, loud conversations, or just everyday sounds being heard through the wall, unwanted noise can really impact your home life.

That was exactly the challenge in this home. In a semi-detached property, the shared solid brick party wall in the living room - made up of two alcoves and a chimney breast, wasn’t doing enough to stop sound from travelling between houses. With a TV mounted on the chimney breast, our customer explained how "it felt like the neighbour’s television was playing in the same room."

Interestingly, the customers TV was also mounted on their wall, so the chances are the neighbour was also experiencing the same unwanted noise.

System Components:

Independent Stud Frame: A 10mm air gap isolates the soundproofing from the existing wall, enhancing sound reduction performance.

Isolation Strip: Placed around the perimeter of the stud frame to reduce flanking vibrations.

ReductoClips: Act as a shock-absorbing suspension system, decoupling mass layers from the frame to dampen high levels of sound energy and vibration.

ReductoClip Furring Channels: Extra-wide channels facilitate quicker and easier fixing of acoustic plasterboards.

Acoustic Mineral Wool: Fills the frame cavity to dampen sound within the void and prevent sound amplification (the drum effect).

Acoustic Plasterboard: Two layers increase the wall's mass, providing more density than standard plasterboard while allowing for standard finishing and decorating techniques.

FlexiSound 5 Membrane: An anti-vibration layer that adds further mass to the wall, sandwiched between the acoustic plasterboard layers, reduces different sound frequencies to further dampen sound energy and vibration.
