Soundproofing a music studio - Levi Clay case study

The Soundproofing Store was contacted by YouTuber Levi Clay, (a guitarist) who was looking to soundproof his garage and turn it into a music studio.

This case study features his journey from garage to music studio, all of which he filmed for his YouTube channel. For more of a detailed breakdown of a music studio conversion, then take a look at the below music studio conversion blog.

Damp problems before the soundproofing can start

When bricking up the garage door space, damp issues were found within the garage. Obviously this needed to be rectified before any type of studio build could commence.

The importance of making music studios airtight

When researching soundproofing for music studios, Levi found The Soundproofing Store website and was really impressed with the studio soundproofing content available. The installation guides and videos were so comprehensive, he decided to take on the build himself..

Installation of the IsoMax Clip System

Studio build - top tip. Install the full ceiling before finishing the walls. Build the wall frames, then attach the clips, bars and plasterboard layers of the ceiling. Then do your clips, bars and plasterboards of the wall going up to the new ceiling.
Since the filming and installation of the IsoMax System used in Levi's studio, The Soundproofing Store have since developed and launched an even thinner system called the ReductoClip™ Independent Wall System

ReductoClip Independent Wall System on a brick wall
By Phil Lyons November 28, 2024
Soundproofing a brick wall can be extremely effective if key principles are followed. Decoupling soundproofing layers from the brick wall and enhancing its ability to absorb and dampen sound energy. Adding resilience to the brick wall with ReductoClips allows the wall to flex and absorb vibrations, much like a car’s suspension system smooths out road bumps. To block airborne noise, heavy, dense materials like FlexiSound and Acoustic Plasterboard are added. For optimal soundproofing of a solid brick party wall, the ReductoClip Independent Wall System offers a outstanding solution, combining key soundproofing elements for maximum noise reduction.
